C. S. Lewis is probably one of my favorite authors. From the Chronicles of Narnia to The Screwtape Letters there is always something in his writing that pushes me to think a little bit deeper or look at something differently than I did before. When I had the chance to review The Soul of C. S. Lewis by Wayne Martindale, I didn’t waste any time requesting it. Right now, other than reading the Chronicles of Narnia with our kids {or listening to them on CD}, I haven’t sat down with any of his other works and had time to ponder and think.

The Soul of C. S. Lewis looks at over twenty-five of Lewis’ works and reflects on those works. Each chapter introduces one of his works and then has ten mediations by various contributors that were inspired by them. There are four main sections of the book: Pilgrimage, including the writings of Surprised by Joy and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; Temptation and Triumph, including The Screwtape Letters and The Abolition of Man; Going Deeper, including The Great Divorce and The Horse and His Boy; and Words of Grace, including Studies in Words and The Last Battle.

The readings are short enough that I have been using them as part of my quiet time in the mornings and I am thoroughly enjoying the insight from the book. It has over 200 devotions…so enough to keep me busy for most of the upcoming year.

You can take a peek inside The Soul of C. S. Lewis on Amazon {$13.59}. I love that it’s a hardcover book too ~ definitely a plus with little hands that like to move books around the house on me!
