Emma ~ PBS Masterpiece

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy here.

image You all might remember that I love anything and everything that is Austen. To the point that I own practically every version of the movies based on her novels.

That {sadly} includes several versions of Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice. And after the PBS Masterpiece special is done, I’ll be adding another version of Emma to my stockpile.

If you missed the first week of Emma on PBS, you can view it online. Me? I’m sitting here patiently waiting for the next two weeks to air, and meanwhile watching the other two copies that I have so I can compare/contrast the different versions for myself. BBC has done a great job with the costuming and filming, so I’m enjoying it so far!

PBS is airing the special from January 24 until February 7th ~ you can check here for when it will be showing in your area.

  1. LOVE IT! In order to see it Sunday I had to "gently" prod my husband to bed (so he would stop watching the football game.) I reminded him how early he wakes up in the morning ... I was sincerely concerned with his sleep, and health, and watching the new EMMA.

  2. Oh I am so glad you shared!! I love Jane Austen. I am excited to see the actor from Mansfield Park in this one. I will definitely have to watch it during nap time or this weekend.

  3. I watched the first 40-45 minutes of it. Even though I love Jane Austen and costume dramas, Emma is one that I've never really enjoyed. I'll be adding the DVDs to my set (I have all of the 1970/80s versions as well as all of the 1990s and 2000s versions), but after watching the initial airing (which I'll probably do in one sitting after the DVR grabs the final part), I may never watch it again.

  4. I love Jane Austen too!

I am currently reading Pride & Prejudice on my iphone when I'm on the eliptical. I love her wit and sarcasm in her writing! I guess that's why she's regarded so highly, huh?

Also, it's not Austen, but if you can get your hands on Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, you would love that too. PBS did a movie and it's FANTASTIC.

  7. I recorded every Masterpiece special when PBS aired Austen movies a couple of years ago. Sadly, those recordings don't seem to work anymore. I guess I should finally just shell out the $$ to buy my favorites on DVD.
