I really don’t get Adventures in Odyssey for my kids. I get them for myself. Truth be told ~ I absolutely love them!
We received Take it From the Top, the 51st album the Adventures in Odyssey series and a lovely 5 hours of audio listening, to review from Tyndale House. The 5 cd set was brought into our van to listen to during our errand running and general driving around town. It definitely gets a 'thumbs up’ from the entire family.
In this series you will learn about:

Adventures in Odyssey is a production of Focus on the Family and they produce QUALITY radio theatre drama that portray Christian and family values. The stories themselves are not ‘preachy’ but show through real-life situations how to walk out the Christian faith {well, pretend situations that could be real-life}. The stories and characters will stretch a child’s imagination and faith.
I’ll admit that I was completely wrapped up in the story lines and couldn’t wait to get back into the van myself to listen to what was happening ~ and the kids liked the stories too {grins}. Out of all of the stories, the last one {The Jubilee Singers} was the only one that the kids were neutral on. The story is historical in it’s setting and shows the perseverance of a group of African-American singers that try to save their school from financial disaster by traveling and singing around the country.
We’ll be hanging onto this cd set for some time. They will be wonderful to listen to again, especially for some longer road trips that we have coming up!

If you ever get to the Colorado Springs area, by all means, take a tour of Focus On the Family. The tours are free. We did that in 2008 and it was really fun - even if you don't have kids. They have all kinds of activities, etc. for the children and a big bookstore for the adults. :)
ReplyDelete(We have a family friend who works there and gave us a private tour; so we got to see how and where they record the Odyssey series as well as Narnia, etc.)
Oh man, Adventures in Odyssey were as awesome in my life as Safety Kids and G.T. and the Halo Express. So inspirational and wonderful! I learned so much as a child.

ReplyDeleteAs I read your posting we are listening to Adventures in Odyssey. I first discovered them when I was a teenager. The local Christian station played an episode in the afternoon, right after school and when I was most likely to be in my car ... yep I listened to them then. Now the kids love them.
ReplyDeleteAdventures in odyssey ROCK!!! I was listening to them in th emiddle of the night - all by myself - while driving home from Texas!! They have been so good for the boys. The storylines and characters are so much fun! I have been collecting them for a couple years now and we are trying to get them all but it gets expensive!!

Since you're confessing, I will too. I buy Odyssey stories more for me than the kids as well. Although they love them too! i always try to buy them during the year and then save them for summer, when the call of too much TV beckons!
