May I Vent?

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy here.

I’m not one that generally purchases magazine subscriptions, but last year one of the neighbor kids was doing a fundraiser and I caved and bought a subscription to Better Homes and Gardens. I figured it was a fairly safe choice and I might get some good ideas over the next year.

Today, I’m just irritated because I feel that NO magazine is safe from smut. Advertising smut that is.

The LAST thing that I want to see in any of my magazines is an essentially naked woman advertising a brand of lotion. Not just one lovely full page ad, but two. Because apparently one picture isn’t enough.

Not only is it the last thing that I want to see, it’s the last thing I want my kids OR my husband to see. Yeah ~ I’m picky like that.

Today I’m making a point to call the magazine, cancel my subscription and never make the mistake of subscribing again ~ thus ensuring that I do have a BETTER HOME!

  1. Real Simple has ads like that too. In the past I've torn them out, but yeah it's just not worth the money! No idea is worth that! :)

  5. I agree. I wrote to a company a while ago that was advertising a snack food. In the ad, the father of the family was in the kitchen in his underwear. Tighty-whitey underwear. It shown on a channel that I consider kid friendly (and I am very picky).

  7. I'm picky like that, too. My favorite magazines are the ones published by Reiman Publications (ad-free, colorful, and wholesome), like Country and Reminisce.

  9. I hate that!! I love Real Simple and they have that junk in there. I didn't renew it this year for that reason! I will miss the little tips.. I also hate Victoria Secret commercials. Who do they make those for? The people wearing the stuff.. think not..

  11. Amen to that sister! I have been trying to be careful about what I bring into our home and not too long ago ordered two magazines Good Housekeeping and Fitness magazine (hoping it would encourage me to exercise and get healthy). Well, the Fitness magazine was terrible with hardly anything on these girls left to the imagination and Good Housekeeping wasn't much better. I vowed to never get these magazines again. Good for you to cancel...I just threw them away.
