Convenience Wins

I’m sitting here just taking a breather right now from running back and forth with the kids, doing school, cleaning up messes, making messes, and wondering if a certain 3 year old is finally getting the whole potty training thing.

This morning Kaleb decided on his own to wear underwear. A fact which I discovered midway through our trip to Target when he stood up and yelled he needed to pee. NOW!!

And although I know I should be thrilled that he is actually using the potty, I am currently of the mindset that diapers are worth their weight in gold. I know I’ll be happy when we’re done and over with the diaper stage, but sometimes convenience is a lovely, lovely thing.

Especially when a certain little someone pees in the middle of his siblings PE class and then wants to sit on your lap while wearing his wet clothes.

I’m just saying.

  1. We can't go ANYWHERE without Aiden having to pee! I'm with on the convenience thing. It was so much easier to change a diaper than getting everyone out of the cart, grabbing my purse and RUNNING to the bathroom ~ praying we make it in time!

  2. hehe to funny! Love that he let you in on his underwear wearing before leaving the house *wink* The only reason I miss the diapers is because they kept Sammy's pant/shorts on :-P But I also have him to keep track of so that makes it much easier I am sure!

  3. Isn't it funny that you can't wait to potty train the first one until you realize how easy diapers really are? I'm sure by #4 you put it off as long as possible!

  4. Agree! Agree! I LOVE DIAPERS!!! Ha ha! My boys probably would be in underwear a lot sooner if I REALLY wanted to potty train them!

So glad someone else said this ;)

  6. Ugh. I'm planning to start potty training Tobin next week. I'm not very inspired after reading this post. Maybe I will just cave and get another case of diapers from Costco. :)

  7. So true! This is why I took my time with Abby. She wasn't day trained until right after age 3 and not night trained until right after age 5. It seems like a long time, but why push it? It just leads to arguments and more accidents.

  8. LOL Yeah, that's why I'm not TOO driven to get Grant trained. I'm so ready to be done with diapers, but I am not looking forward to the inconvenience that's coming! ;-)

  9. Ahhh...there are some tricks to this thing to minimize the inconvenience.

#1, take a potty along in the vehicle so you can just pull in a parking lot or off the road anywhere and let him go in the van. (If it's all liquid, discreetly pour it outside. If it's solid, put the bowl inside a shopping bag and dump it in the restroom of a gas station.)

#2. As soon as possible, train him to go when YOU decide it's time for him to go (such as right before you leave the house for a trip to town). We accomplished this by bribing with a miniature marshmallow if there was success. Even if they just had a teaspoon, they squeezed it out to get that marshmallow.

#3. Carry a seat-reducer with you at all times. Just stick it inside an old shopping bag and put it in the shopping cart. When you need to rush to the public restroom you can pull it out and plop the toddler on it.

Yeah, there are trials to not having the convenience of diapers, but it sure saves a lot of sore behinds, and LOTS OF MONEY when they're potty trained.
