Wasting Money?

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy here.

Silly bands have been all the excitement in our house ~ to the point that I have started avoiding going anywhere with the kids because I really don’t want them spending all of their money on another pack of bracelets.

I know, I’m such a mean mom.

After the kids had been saving their allowance for a few weeks, Zachary was holding his money in his hands and said to me {in an oh-so-serious voice}:

"Mom, I don’t want to waste my money on silly bands, but I have to tell you this ~ I’m going to waste my money on silly bands.”

On the bright side, at least he gave me a heads up.

Head on over to Mary's at Not Before 7 for some more Tiny Talk Tuesday!!

  1. That is too funny. Although those silly bands are a hit here too, I am thankful that my kids really could care less about them.

  2. Ah the silly bands. Fortunately they were a short-lived phase in our household. For a while there, they were a great cheap treat or method of bribery, depending on how you look at it. ;-) Then I discovered that my son didn't really like them, but he was selling them to kids at school or exchanging them for junk food. GREAAAAT. :-)

  3. We had a similar discussion in my house over a toy creature called a Squirmle. I dared to call that toy a piece of junk. He promptly took his earned money and told me "It's not junk, it's a Squirmle." :)

  4. Yep, I refuse to buy them....but the kids are constantly bringing new ones home!! They go to ballet and come home with 2 or 3...they go to baseball and they come home with them...ditto for church!

Craziness! But at least Zachary knows his weakness!

  5. I'm so happy my daughter really isn't into them. Her friends have given her some and I won a pack in a giveaway, but she never wears any.

  6. LOLOL! My daughter loves those things. It's so annoying that everywhere has them...they can't be avoided!

  7. I had avoided them until Sunday when we were at church, our Pastor gave my daughter a fish and explained to her the significance of the fish being a symbol of Jesus. I was a little upset because I had done so much to keep them out of our house but, she ended up losing it in the van on the way home and I confinscated it. Call me a bad Mom but I really don't like the junk and one of the reasons why we have chosen to homeschool is because our children won't have to be subjected to these sorts of fads on a daily basis at school. I guess we will have to deal with these influences at church though. Lol.

  10. I do have to say they've worked wonders as incentives here!

Even so, I was SO VERY HAPPY when Walmart started carrying them for $1.00. I am much more willing to let the boys spend $1.00 for them than I was let them spend $5.00 on them!

At less than 10 cents each, I really can't complain too much!

  11. That's rather funny. If he spends his money now he won't have any later when he wants something more expensive! :)

  13. Too funny! And I'm so glad that I have managed to completely shield my son from Silly Bands. I find them so.. so.. silly! :) (I know, we had our own fads when we were young. I'm just not ready for my son to get into 'fads'!)
